Why Acupuncture Is Part of My Training Routine

Like many of you, I am trying to have a fun and active summer.  This has included recently challenging myself to start something I never thought I’d do again: Running

When I was a kid, I was a long distance runner and did both track and cross country.  I stopped after tearing up my knees.  And also wanting a break from logging a bunch of miles as a huge part of identity

So after a casual 20 year break, I decided to give it another go. I have always been pretty active, but thought getting back into running was going to be too hard on my knees and hips.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

You know what helped me?  Acupuncture and Massage

I get acupuncture and massage 1x a month with a focus on opening up my right hip (which has chronic tightness and instability) and balancing and loosening the tight muscles in my quads and hamstrings so that they don’t pull on my knee.  Not only does this help me not be in pain, it helps my body move the way it’s supposed.

The differences are noticeable.  Not only am I running without aches and pains, but I recently took two minutes off my 5k time in just a month.

I’m not chasing podium finishes, but I do like to challenge myself.  And with turning 40 last year, I have found that re-introducing myself to things that I have previously loved- such as running and dancing- has been really fun and empowering.

Maybe you relate?  Maybe you don’t.  I’m here either way to make sure that injuries from the gym or pickleball or your recent hike, don’t get in the way of you having a really fun summer!
