Hi, I’m Al Reed.
I am a licensed acupuncturist in Portland, OR, and have extensive experience in treating acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain through acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, and bodywork
Other focuses of my practice include: hormonal issues (everything from (peri)menopause to cycle support to side effects of HRT), fertility, holistic skin care + microneedling, postoperative care, insomnia, anxiety, grief support, and stress management
I was recognized as one of Portland's Top Acupuncturists by Portland Monthly Magazine's Top Doctors List for 2022
Along with being a health care provider, I cofounded and help organize the group Queer Health Care Provider Meet Up- an interdisciplinary group of LGBTQI2S+ health care providers focused on education and community.
A core value of mine as a healthcare provider is shifting the power dynamics often present in medicine. I aim to empower and educate my patients so they feel more knowledgeable and confident about their own health. I also value giving back to my community by building spaces where people can connect, learn, and support one another—because people need systemic support, not just self-care.
Healthcare has not always been safe, carrying a history of racism and systemic injustice. I strive to stay accountable, honor the Indigenous roots of East Asian Medicine, and bring social justice and health equity into my clinic and community.
My approach is informed by being a white, non-binary, trans masculine, queer person. I have a specific passion for serving the LGBTQI2S+ community and for creating affirming spaces where people of all identities feel safe, respected, and cared for.
I’m a Midwest transplant who loves gardening, hanging with my dog and cat, moving through dance and weight training, cooking, and traveling. Mexico City and Chicago are favorite cities, and I try to explore somewhere new each year.
I’m a big fan of the show Survivor, and still to be determined if I myself could go days in those elements. If I weren’t an acupuncturist, I’d be a flower farmer. Peonies and Wild Nootka Roses are my favorites.
Are you accepting new patients? Where do I find you?
I’m open and accepting new patients, and currently practicing out of Mandala Medicine & Wellness on NE 31st and Burnside right next to Laurelhurst Market.
We have easy street parking & a private lot behind the building.
The entrance has a wheel chair accessible ramp, though my office is on second floor of the building without an elevator. First floor and no stair accessibility for acupuncture treatments are available with prior notice so that we can get you the care you deserve.
I’m excited to work with you!
